How much would Sony charge to repair my PS3?

My ps3 doesn't read discs. It's an older 40gb model. Cechg01. I guess it's one of the models where the blue ray lens would fail a lot. I think I read it's around $90 + shipping to get a repair from Sony. Would there be any way to talk them down to a lower price? I would assume no. But has anyone heard of some one getting a cheaper deal for a repair? Have any of you been successful in talking down the price to customer service? I want to call just to try. At least before I try and fix the ps3 myself. So I can know I at least attempted something with them before I open up the ps3.
